Parades and Fireworks

I know this post is a few months late but I finally got the photographs on took on 4th of July developed and wanted to share.

I experienced my first Washington, DC 4th of July. I think it’s safe to say the city is packed that day. Tourists everywhere. Gathering for the parade, waiting for the fireworks. It’s insane. My dad and I decided that our first 4th of July in the city had to be spent in the city.

Of course it was a typical blistering hot DC summer day. One of those horrible days when you walk outside and within seconds of just standing there you are drenched in sweat. Of course we decided to walk from the White House to the National Mall like it was no big deal. Needless to say, it was experience.

Despite the heat and the despite the tourists, it was fun to be in the nation’s capital on Independence Day. We got to see a bit of the parade and we stumbled upon several weird festivals that were occupying the National Mall.

We rushed out of the city as quick as we could to avoid getting stuck in the traffic for the fireworks. My dad went home to his apartment in Virginia and I, along with a couple of friends, made an effort to see the fireworks from the National Cathedral.(Big fail! One giant building was just in the way).

I’m pretty sure I’m not going to try to go downtown next year or the year after though. I’d much rather stay inside with the air conditioning cranked to high.
