The DC metro was never empty. Not even the time I rode it on Thanksgiving. More often than not you were squished in-between several hundred other people trying not to step or sweat on them during your ride. Most of the people who take the Chicago Metra are daily commuters from the suburbs heading to work. The cars fill-up but never beyond capacity. As one of the first people on the train in the evenings the car is usually empty when I get on. It’s can be a creepy, end-of-the-world kind of sight.
